United States Conducts Nuclear Bomb Test Without Warhead

The U.S. Department of Energy announced that the country conducted a test of a B61-12 tactical nuclear bomb without a warhead in August.
The Sandia national laboratories, affiliated with the U.S. Department of Energy, released a statement confirming that these tests took place in Nevada from August 19 to 21.
During the tests, U.S. fifth-generation F-35 fighter jets carried and dropped these bombs equipped with training (non-operational) warheads.
The statement also noted that the tests were coordinated with the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA).
In late 2024, the NNSA completed a program to extend the service life of this type of air-delivered bombs by 20 years.
