Name of Senior Russian Official Whose Assassination Plot Was Foiled Revealed

According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and al-Mayadeen, Russian media reported that a plot to assassinate Sergei Shoigu, Secretary of Russia’s Security Council, was thwarted while he was at a cemetery in Moscow.
The report stated that the perpetrators planned to detonate a bomb during Shoigu’s presence in the area but were all arrested before carrying out the attack.
Shoigu previously served as Russia’s Minister of Defense from 2012 until 2024. Following that period, President Vladimir Putin appointed him as Secretary of the Security Council.
A few days earlier, Russia’s National Security Service announced it had prevented an assassination attempt targeting a senior government official.
The security service said in a statement that it had foiled an assassination plot planned by Ukraine’s intelligence service against a high-ranking Russian official inside Moscow’s Troyekurovskoye Cemetery.
The statement did not disclose the name of the targeted official.
