Vance Calls Europe’s Hope for Ukraine Victory Unrealistic
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing mehr News Agency, US Vice President JD Vance wrote on X that the idea of increasing military aid to Ukraine and intensifying sanctions against Russia to secure Kyiv’s victory in the conflict is merely “wishful thinking.”
He added, ”There is a misconception that if we just provide more money, send more weapons, or tighten sanctions further, victory will be near. Peace is not achieved by diplomats or politicians living in a fantasy world but by smart and pragmatic individuals.”
The American official described critics of the US peace plan for Ukraine as either uninformed about the proposal or unable to grasp on-the-ground realities.
Vance emphasized that any proposed solution must be acceptable to both Russia and Ukraine as parties to the conflict.Its aim should be minimizing the chance of renewed hostilities.
These remarks come as the US goverment pursues a new strategy to end the war in Ukraine, exploring options beyond military aid and sanctions.
the British newspaper the Guardian reported citing American sources that a group of US Army generals may travel to Moscow by the end of this week for talks on Washington’s peace plan for Ukraine.
The report noted that on November 20, a US delegation led by Defense Secretary Daniel Driscoll presented former President Donald Trump’s peace proposal to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The following day, Russian President Vladimir Putin declared at a Security Council meeting that moscow was ready for negotiations and acknowledged America’s 28-point plan could serve as a foundation for resolving the crisis.
According to The Financial Times, America’s peace plan requires Kyiv to make important concessions.
Reuters added that Washington has pressured Kyiv to sign this plan by November 27; otherwise it risks suspension of arms deliveries and intelligence cooperation.
