European Leaders Respond to U.S. 28-Point Peace Plan for Ukraine

Senior‌ European Union officials have welcomed the⁢ United⁢ States’ 28-point plan for ⁢peace in ukraine.

The English section ⁤of webangah News Agency, citing RIA Novosti and ‌Mehr news Agency, reported that EU​ leaders issued‌ a statement on Saturday describing the U.S.⁣ proposal as⁢ a basis for resolving the crisis in Ukraine and expressed their support.

The joint‌ statement, released on November 22 by several ⁢senior EU officials and European ⁤institutions, said:⁤ “The U.S.plan on‌ Ukraine ‌can serve⁢ as a foundation for settling the‍ conflict; though,it requires amendments and completion.”

It added: “The European Union is ready to ⁤play its role in ⁢ensuring lasting ⁤peace in Ukraine’s future.”

The statement was endorsed by Antonio Costa, President ⁢of the European Council; Ursula von​ der Leyen, President of the European Commission; ⁢Emmanuel Macron, President of France; olaf ⁢Scholz, Chancellor⁣ of⁢ Germany; Giorgia Meloni, ‌Prime ⁤Minister of Italy; Pedro Sánchez, Prime Minister of Spain; and keir Starmer, Prime Minister of ‌the united Kingdom.

This comes ​after a report last Thursday quoting a senior⁣ U.S. government official stated that former President Donald Trump approved a confidential 28-point plan ⁣to resolve the Ukraine conflict last week.

The ‍plan was confidentially drafted by‍ senior U.S. officials in consultation with Kirill Dmitriev, head of Russia’s Direct Investment ‌Fund, and Ukrainian authorities. ‍It focuses ⁢on providing security guarantees to both sides aimed at securing lasting peace.

According‍ to The Wall Street Journal, under this plan Ukraine would have to agree to refrain from joining⁣ NATO for at least several years.
