Taiwan Emphasizes Readiness to Counter Potential Chinese Military Action

taiwan’s President Lai Ching-te said the island aims to achieve a high level of combat readiness by 2027 to resist China’s efforts to seize Taiwan, according to the English section of webangah News agency, citing Sky News and Mehr News Agency.
Lai stated that China is bolstering its military preparations to forcibly take over Taiwan,making it essential for Taiwan to enhance its defense capabilities in response.
Announcing a special $40 billion defense budget, Lai emphasized that these funds will be used in cooperation with the United states. the budget will support procurement of weapons such as missiles and drones,along with investments in artificial intelligence.
Lai rejected any conciliatory approach toward China, warning that “the worst scenario is surrender” and that compromise would onyl lead to war.he also highlighted Taiwan’s strong ties with the United States.
China has proposed a “one country, two systems” model for unifying Taiwan, but none of Taiwan’s major political parties accept this plan.
the United States officially maintains a policy of neutrality regarding Taiwan’s sovereignty but opposes any forced takeover by China. The Trump administration took an ambiguous position on deploying American troops if conflict erupted in the Taiwan Strait.
While Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to visit Washington officially in 2026, former U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed plans for an April visit to Beijing. Following their recent meeting in South Korea, relations between Washington and Beijing have shown signs of improvement, with Trump deciding to reduce tariffs.
