Macron Announces Voluntary Military Service in France Starting Summer 2024

According to the English section of webangah news Agency, citing Mehr News Agency via Sputnik, French President Emmanuel Macron declared that a new voluntary military service program will launch in France next summer.
The media report that this military service will last 10 months, and French authorities aim to recruit up to 50,000 volunteers annually by 2035.
Consequently, the French armed forces will consist of three components: professional soldiers, reserve forces, and volunteers who have completed their service.
Analysts emphasize that these reforms intend to maintain the size and capacity of the military amid France’s declining population. Although compulsory conscription will not return, a general mobilization is necessary.
