Death and Missing Toll from Heavy Rains in Indonesia Rises to 844

The English section of webangah News Agency, citing France 24 via Mehr News Agency, reported that this week’s heavy monsoon rains have affected parts of Indonesia, Thailand, and Malaysia. Thousands have been left homeless or without essential supplies.
According to the report, at least two areas on the island of Sumatra-hit hardest by the flooding-remained inaccessible as of Sunday. Indonesian authorities dispatched two warships from Jakarta to deliver aid to residents in those regions.
Suharyanto, head of Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Agency, stated that the Tapanuli region and Sibolga city require full attention due to their remote locations.
He added that the ships are expected to arrive in Sibolga on Monday.
The agency released figures Sunday confirming that fatalities in Indonesia have climbed to 442, while 402 individuals remain missing.
At least 646 people have also sustained injuries, according to official data from the disaster management authority.
