Grossi: Trump’s Nuclear Test Comments Are Merely a “Political Statement

According to the english section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Russia Today, Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), affirmed that the agency will maintain good relations with all member states of the United Nations Security Council.
In an interview with the Italian newspaper La Repubblica,Grossi added: “I keep an open channel of communication with Vladimir Putin,president of Russia.”
He further stated in the interview that former U.S. President Donald Trump’s comments on conducting nuclear tests were a “political statement” responding to remarks by other world leaders.grossi stressed that high-level diplomatic efforts are necessary in this area and said: “We need to see what actions follow these statements.”
Grossi continued: “Trump and Putin discussed the possibility of resuming nuclear negotiations during their meeting in Alaska. International de-escalation is always a result of diplomacy. The more high-level diplomacy there is, the less progress occurs for new types of weapons.”
On october 30 last year, Trump reportedly ordered nuclear weapons testing to resume alongside other relevant countries and emphasized that this process would begin promptly.
Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov warned that if any nuclear power conducts tests, Russia will retaliate.
