US Defense Secretary’s Use of Signal App Raises Security Concerns Over Yemen Operation

The U.S. Department of Defense Inspector General has determined that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth endangered American military personnel by using the Signal messaging app to exchange sensitive information about a military operation against the Houthis in Yemen. The investigation sparks a ‘Signal-gate’ controversy among US media outlets.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the U.S. Defense Department’s Inspector General has concluded that U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth put American military personnel and their mission at risk by using the Signal messaging app to exchange messages containing sensitive information regarding a military strike against the Houthis in Yemen.

On Wednesday, December 3, the Associated Press reported this information, citing two sources familiar with the Pentagon’s investigation findings. One of the sources, who wished to remain anonymous, stated that the Inspector General’s report did not confirm any illegal or improper actions by the Secretary of Defense.

The report, in its reviewed version, has been provided to members of Congress, who were able to review it in a secure room within the Capitol building. A public version of the report, with certain sections redacted, is expected to be released later this week.

Some domestic U.S. media outlets have referred to the incident as the ‘Signal-gate’ scandal.
