EU Allocates €7 Million for Humanitarian Aid and Private Sector Stabilization in Afghanistan
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Germany and the European Union are set to allocate a combined €7 million to bolster humanitarian assistance in Afghanistan.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has reported that Germany has contributed €2 million to the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund.
The World Food Programme (WFP) has stated that due to budget constraints, it has been forced to reduce the number of food aid recipients from 10 million to only 2 million.
Concurrently, the European Union announced the signing of a €5 million agreement with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), part of the World Bank Group, to implement the “Afghanistan Private Sector Stabilization” program.
According to the EU delegation in Kabul, the program is scheduled to commence next month and will continue for 42 months. Its objective is to stabilize the economy and support livelihoods by revitalizing the private sector.
Many experts believe that the increase in European aid to Afghanistan stems from concerns about a new wave of migration from the country towards Western nations.
Western countries have indicated their intention to repatriate some Afghan migrants in coordination with the government in Kabul.
