Iraq’s Al-Nujaba Movement Vows Continued Resistance Against US Forces

The Al-Nujaba movement’s deputy military commander, Abdulqader al-Karbalai, reaffirmed the group’s commitment to resisting US forces in Iraq, condemning Washington’s interference and military presence as a violation of Iraqi sovereignty.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Abdulqader al-Karbalai, the deputy military commander of Iraq‘s Al-Nujaba movement, issued a statement emphasizing the group’s continued resistance against US forces through all available means. He denounced the ongoing US military presence in Iraq as a blatant violation of the country’s sovereignty and rejected any delays in implementing the agreement for foreign troop withdrawal.

In the statement, shared on the social media platform X, al-Karbalai asserted that the US persists in its occupation despite the Iraqi people’s formal demand for withdrawal. He accused Washington of meddling in Iraq’s internal affairs, including by supporting and arming groups aimed at destabilizing the nation.

The statement further declared that occupation justifies continued legitimate resistance, framing it as a right of occupied nations, with its legitimacy rooted in the dignity of the Iraqi people. Al-Karbalai stressed that pressure and threats would not alter Al-Nujaba’s stance, vowing to confront foreign military presence until its complete removal.

Meanwhile, some Iraqi armed factions, including the Imam Ali Brigades, the Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq movement, and the Ansar Allah al-Awfia group, have recently agreed to limit arms possession to state forces. However, the Hezbollah Brigades of Iraq opposed disarmament, stating that sovereignty, security, and preventing foreign interference must precede discussions on state monopoly of weapons.

Earlier, Faiq Zaidan, head of Iraq’s Supreme Judicial Council, praised armed group leaders for cooperating with efforts to consolidate state authority and transition from military to political activities. The US has intensified pressure on Iraq to disband resistance groups and control weapons outside state frameworks, even opposing their participation in the future government despite their significant parliamentary gains.
