Hungary’s Orban Claims EU Sanctions on Russia Backfired, Devastating Europe

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has declared that the European Union’s sanctions against Russia, designed to cripple Moscow, have instead inflicted severe damage on Europe itself. In a social media post on X, Orban criticized Brussels for its failed strategy, stating that while the sanctions were promised to destroy Moscow, they ended up destroying Europe.
Orban highlighted the consequences of these measures, including skyrocketing energy prices, a collapse in competitiveness, and stunted economic growth across the continent. He emphasized that this situation is the result of misguided decisions and called for a shift from escalating tensions to pursuing negotiations.
The Hungarian government has consistently advocated for a swift and peaceful resolution to the Ukraine crisis since its onset. Orban has repeatedly pointed out that military actions in Ukraine and Western sanctions against Russia have cost Hungary‘s economy between 20 to 30 billion euros.
