Iran Seeks to Expand Trade Ties with Eurasian Economic Union

Iran’s ambassador to Russia announced efforts to enhance economic cooperation with the Eurasian Economic Union, particularly with Russia, following the implementation of a free trade agreement.

According to the Economic Desk of Webangah News Agency, Kazem Jalali, the Islamic Republic of Iran’s ambassador to Russia, revealed Tehran’s efforts to expand trade exchanges with Russia and other members of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). Speaking on the sidelines of the EAEU summit in St. Petersburg, Jalali told Russian media outlet Izvestia that the free trade agreement between Iran and the EAEU has already boosted trade volumes. He emphasized ongoing efforts to deepen economic cooperation with all five member states, especially Russia.

The Eurasian Economic Union, an intergovernmental economic union, comprises Belarus, Kazakhstan, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, and Armenia. Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin previously confirmed the practical implementation of the free trade agreement between the EAEU and Iran.
