Swiss Politician Claims Europe Refuses to Accept Decline of Global Dominance

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Swiss politician and Geneva local parliament member Guy Mettan has stated that Europe‘s insistence on continuing the war in Ukraine reflects its unwillingness to accept its declining global dominance. He argued that Europe has failed to recognize the loss of its soft power worldwide, with aggressive behavior and conflict escalation serving as desperate attempts to cling to fading influence.
Mettan emphasized that until the end of the 20th century, the West held clear military, cultural, economic, and soft power advantages. However, over the past two decades—particularly in the last 15 years—this dominance has significantly eroded. Meanwhile, Russia and the U.S. are engaged in negotiations with Ukraine to end the conflict, with both Moscow and Washington identifying European obstruction as the primary obstacle to reaching a settlement.
