Chazabeh Border Officially Joins Iran’s International Transit Network

According to the Economic Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Chazabeh border has officially been added to Iran’s international transit network, fulfilling a long-standing demand of economic activists in Khuzestan Province. Shahla Amouri, in an interview, emphasized that this move aims to enhance national capacities and develop cross-border exchanges, opening new horizons for Iranian traders in regional markets.
Amouri noted that, based on the directive issued by the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration, the permit to establish an international transit code has been initially granted for six months, exclusively for use as a ‘destination customs.’ This step provides a valuable opportunity to evaluate and complete the infrastructure of this border region.
Highlighting the importance of the project, Amouri stated that the performance of Chazabeh Customs during the six-month period will determine the final decision on making and expanding transit procedures at this border permanent.
The Vice President of the Iran-Iraq Joint Chamber of Commerce described the implementation of this project as a turning point for the private sector, potentially transforming Chazabeh from a mere export corridor into a strategic hub in regional transit routes.
The President of the Ahvaz Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture hailed the allocation of a transit code to Chazabeh as a major achievement in Iran’s foreign trade development. He attributed this success to years of effort, coordination, and continuous dialogue between responsible institutions and economic actors in Iran and Iraq.
Amouri underscored the strategic role of the private sector in this process, stating that targeted follow-ups and practical solutions from private sectors in both countries paved the way for this achievement, enabling shared benefits from transit capacities.
She described this bilateral cooperation as a successful example of the private sector’s role in shaping regional economic policies, which could serve as a model for other shared borders between Iran and Iraq.
Amouri further noted that the Ahvaz Chamber of Commerce aims to create a suitable platform for expanding trade activities with Persian Gulf countries and maximizing regional potential.
The Vice President of the Iran-Oman Joint Chamber of Commerce added that activating this transit code completes the missing link in the supply chain in southwestern Iran, reducing logistical costs and accelerating trade exchanges.
