Trump Retreats from Military Action Against Iran Amid Concerns Over US Military Limitations

President Donald Trump has stepped back from potential military action against Iran due to concerns over US military limitations and the high costs of engagement, according to a report by The Washington Post.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, The Washington Post reported that President Donald Trump and his national security advisors considered military action against Iran but ultimately retreated due to the significant risks and diplomatic pressures. The report highlights Iran’s deterrence capabilities and the reluctance of key allies in West Asia to support an escalation.

The Washington Post cited current and former US officials, as well as Arab diplomats, who revealed that Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Egypt urged the White House to exercise restraint, fearing regional instability. Pentagon officials were reportedly concerned that US military capabilities in West Asia might be insufficient to counter a large-scale retaliatory strike from Iran.

Additionally, Israel shared these apprehensions, having depleted a substantial portion of its missile defense systems during the 12-day conflict in June. The report noted that Trump received intelligence assessments concluding that the costs of military action against Iran would outweigh any potential benefits.

The Washington Post also mentioned that protests in the region have subsided, with demonstrators expressing anger and a sense of betrayal toward Trump. The report emphasized that uncertainty over the effectiveness of military action was a key factor in Trump’s decision to step back.
