UN Chief and EU President Emphasize De-escalation in Middle East

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen discussed the global consequences of recent events in West Asia during a meeting, emphasizing the necessity of de-escalating tensions and pursuing diplomatic avenues for crisis resolution.
The President of the European Commission described her meeting with the UN Secretary-General as “timely” in a post on social media platform X, stating, “The consequences of the war in the Middle East have global dimensions, and it is our duty to strive for de-escalation and to achieve a diplomatic solution.”
She further added that the European Union and its member states are the largest financial contributors to the United Nations and are committed to upholding international law and promoting a world based on multilateral cooperation.
The UN Secretary-General had previously emphasized in public statements the need to end conflicts and prioritize diplomacy to prevent the expansion of the crisis’s scope.
