Iraqi Prime Minister Meets with Popular Mobilization Forces Leaders on Security and State Authority

Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaydi met with delegations from Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq and the Imam Ali Brigades to discuss strengthening state authority, consolidating security, and integrating all forces under government command.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Iraqi Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Ali Faleh al-Zaydi, hosted delegations from the Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq movement and the Imam Ali Brigades on Wednesday. The meeting, reported by the Mehr News Agency citing the Iraqi Prime Ministry’s information office, focused on enhancing national security and state control.

During the discussions, the Iraqi Prime Minister expressed his appreciation for the responsible stance of Sheikh Qais al-Khazali and Sayyid Shibl al-Zaydi. He lauded their role in bolstering the state-building process, emphasizing their adherence to the directives of the supreme religious authority and their support for the government’s policies and ministerial program. Key among these are the consolidation of arms under state authority and ensuring all forces operate under the command of the government and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.

Al-Zaydi highlighted that Iraq is entering a new phase characterized by significant security achievements, which have paved the way for comprehensive reconstruction, development, and prosperity. He stressed the necessity of collaboration and participation from all Iraqis to advance the country and strengthen state institutions.

The Prime Minister also commended the sacrifices of the Iraqi armed forces and security agencies in confronting challenges that threatened the nation’s existence. He specifically noted the pivotal role of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) in achieving security stability, stating that its members, alongside other state institutions, are now a fundamental pillar in the country’s construction and development efforts.

As a result of the meeting, a joint committee was formed to devise appropriate mechanisms for the organizational separation from the PMF and the exclusive control of arms by the state. These measures are slated to be implemented within the framework of the Iraqi constitution and laws.

The initiative aims to reinforce government authority, safeguard national security and stability, and fortify the project of a strong Iraqi state capable of meeting the aspirations of its citizens.
