U.S. Central Command Claims Downing Iranian Drones in Strait of Hormuz

The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) has claimed to have intercepted and destroyed two Iranian suicide drones that were allegedly threatening international navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. This assertion comes amidst ongoing regional tensions and the U.S. military’s presence in the Persian Gulf.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) issued a statement on its official X account, formerly Twitter, asserting that its forces shot down two Iranian one-way attack drones earlier today, Sunday. CENTCOM claimed the drones posed a threat to international maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.

This claim emerges while the U.S. military presence in the Persian Gulf is considered a primary factor in instability within the Strait of Hormuz and the surrounding waters. CENTCOM’s statement, without referencing any violation of a ceasefire with Iran, further alleged that American military personnel remain on high alert and in defensive positions to counter what it described as “Iranian aggressive actions.”

Official and military authorities from the Islamic Republic of Iran have not yet responded to this claim, nor have they confirmed its validity.
