US Vice President Vance Acknowledges Divergent Interests with Israel

U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance has acknowledged differences in interests and perspectives between Washington and Tel Aviv, even as cooperation continues, particularly in light of recent events involving Israel’s actions in Beirut. Vance also expressed optimism about reaching a long-term agreement on Iran’s nuclear program.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance conceded in an interview with Fox News that Washington and Tel Aviv hold differing interests and viewpoints on certain matters, though cooperation between the two remains ongoing. Vance pointed to the recent Israeli strike in the southern suburbs of Beirut, ordered by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, as an example of diverging interests, noting that President Trump had expressed dissatisfaction with the attack. The Vice President further stated that recent developments have created an environment conducive to achieving a long-term accord on Iran’s nuclear program.

Speaking on the ongoing negotiations between Washington and Tehran, Vance remarked, “President Trump believes that a stable agreement on Iran’s nuclear file is achievable, and I consider this assessment to be accurate.” He emphasized that in any potential agreement with Iran, the critical element extends beyond the written terms to ensuring Tehran’s adherence to and practical implementation of its commitments. This assertion comes despite repeated statements from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) indicating that Iran has been fulfilling its obligations.

The Vice President also claimed that a significant deficiency in the previous nuclear agreement was the absence of an inspection system to guarantee that Iran was not pursuing nuclear weapons development. This claim is made even though Iran’s nuclear activities have been under IAEA supervision. Vance’s remarks are notable given that the Trump administration was responsible for withdrawing the United States from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and reimposing extensive sanctions on Iran. He asserted that should a new agreement be reached, the U.S. would monitor and verify Iran’s long-term compliance.

Concluding his statements, Vance posited that Iran has no desire to prolong conflict, as continued hostilities would not serve the country’s interests. He suggested that Tehran has presented serious proposals and issues for discussion in the ongoing negotiations. This assertion is made at a time when the U.S. faces considerable pressure from regional allies and international public opinion, partly due to Iran’s complete control over the Strait of Hormuz, and a prolonged conflict would incur substantial costs for Washington.
