Israel, U.S. Aim to Prevent Iran’s Regional Dominance, Envoy Claims

Israel’s Ambassador to Washington, Yechiel Leiter, stated that the United States and Israel share the objective of preventing Iran from becoming a dominant regional power, asserting that both nations are working collaboratively to counter Iranian threats. Leiter’s remarks come amidst ongoing tensions and a series of exchanges between Israel and Iran.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Yechiel Leiter, the Israeli ambassador to Washington, revealed the underlying objectives behind Israel’s actions with the U.S. against Iran in an interview with Fox News. Leiter acknowledged that the U.S. and Israel hold identical goals, emphasizing their shared desire to prevent Iran from becoming a dominant regional power.

Leiter asserted that Israel is working with the United States to ensure Iran cannot pose a threat to the region, seemingly overlooking Israel’s role as a significant source of tension in the Middle East.

Without referencing Israel’s aggressive attacks on the southern suburbs of Beirut or its violation of the ceasefire with Lebanon, Leiter claimed that Israel was compelled to respond to Iranian attacks and that Tehran had received a demonstration of Israel’s response capabilities.

Despite news reports indicating contentious exchanges between President Trump and Prime Minister Netanyahu, with the U.S. President reportedly calling the Israeli Prime Minister “crazy,” Leiter claimed that the recent discussion between Trump and Netanyahu was friendly, underscoring a deep, 40-year relationship between Washington and Tel Aviv.

Leiter highlighted the coordination between Washington and Tel Aviv, stating there is close cooperation and mutual understanding between the United States and Israel.

He further claimed that Trump had called for de-escalation, a sentiment that, according to Leiter, the Israeli Prime Minister also supported.

This assertion contrasts with President Trump’s alleged request to Netanyahu not to respond to Iran, a request the Israeli Prime Minister reportedly disregarded hours later by ordering further attacks on targets in Iran, suggesting Netanyahu placed little value on Trump’s words.

The Israeli ambassador to Washington, without mentioning Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s statement that Lebanon was part of the ceasefire agreement between Iran and the U.S., claimed that Iran is attempting to link its negotiations with the U.S. to the issue of Lebanon. However, Leiter stated that Israel sees no connection between these two matters.

Continuing his criticism of the Lebanese resistance, Leiter issued threats against Hezbollah, asserting that Israel would not permit Lebanon to fall under Hezbollah’s control or allow attacks against Israel without consequence.

Leiter furthered his unsubstantiated claims, adding that Israel’s attacks on Hezbollah are unrelated to Iran and that Tehran should remain outside this context.

He concluded by reiterating his stance on Lebanon, expressing skepticism that Trump would allow Iran to connect the Lebanese issue to the ongoing negotiations between Washington and Tehran.
