Russia’s Air Defense Shoots Down Nine Ukrainian Drones Targeting Moscow

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Russian air defense systems have downed nine drones that were en route to Moscow, as announced by Sergey Sobyanin, the city’s mayor. This operation marks the most recent event in a series of drone assaults launched by Ukraine against the Russian capital.
Mayor Sobyanin provided updates on the situation through multiple posts on his “Mex” messaging channel. Initially, he reported the destruction of one drone, later increasing the confirmed number to five, and finally announcing that three more drones were shot down, bringing the total to nine downed aircraft.
In one of his messages, Sobyanin stated, “Air defense forces affiliated with the Ministry of Defense have shot down a drone moving towards Moscow. Emergency service specialists are actively working at the site where drone debris has fallen.”
This latest attack occurs just two days after a significant drone incursion by the Ukrainian army into Moscow. Russian officials reported that 76 drones were neutralized while approaching the city during that previous incident.
In recent weeks, Ukrainian drone attacks on Russia’s capital have intensified, prompting Russian authorities to bolster their air defense systems around Moscow and its surrounding regions.
Russian officials assert that Kyiv’s objective with these strikes is to instill fear among residents and disrupt stability within Russian territory. Ukraine, conversely, maintains that its operations are directed at military targets and critical infrastructure.
President Vladimir Putin of Russia has previously stated that Moscow would escalate its strikes on Ukrainian infrastructure in response to attacks against civilians, adding that Russia would respond “appropriately” to any aggression.
