Iran Central Bank Denies Trump’s Claim on Frozen Assets

Iran’s Central Bank governor has refuted claims made by U.S. President Donald Trump that frozen Iranian assets, once released, will exclusively be used for purchasing American agricultural products. He clarified that while Iran prioritizes national interests, there is no binding obligation to buy U.S. goods.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Iran‘s Central Bank Governor, Abdulnaser Hemmati, stated that signed documents regarding frozen assets do not impose any obligation to purchase agricultural products from the United States. Hemmati explained Iran’s commercial approach is based on national interests, adding that if the price and quality of American agricultural products are superior, there would be no obstacle to their purchase.

The governor further noted that a portion of the released funds can be used to purchase any non-sanctioned goods. This statement comes shortly after U.S. President Donald Trump claimed that the frozen Iranian assets, slated for release, would be exclusively utilized for buying food from American farmers.

Trump had further alleged that Tehran should not allocate its oil revenues to rebuilding its military capabilities, but rather direct these resources towards purchasing food for its citizens.
