North Korean Leader Welcomes Nuclear-Armed Navy Amid Escalating Tensions

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un announced that the ongoing expansion of the nation’s nuclear forces is the “most correct and unique path” to confront an increasingly unstable world, speaking at a meeting of the ruling Workers’ Party. These remarks, reported by Mehr News Agency citing The Guardian, were directed at escalating threats from the United States and its allies.
This latest statement follows a recent trend of pronouncements from North Korean leadership, highlighting Kim Jong Un’s commitment to equipping warships with nuclear missiles, doubling weapons production, and expanding the country’s nuclear arsenal at an “exponential speed.” According to Sputnik News Agency, Kim Jong Un officially welcomed the nuclear-armed navy with the commissioning of a new destroyer.
North Korea has formally commissioned the Choe Hyon, a 5,000-ton destroyer that Pyongyang describes as a symbol of its advancing naval and nuclear capabilities. Speaking at a ceremony in the western port of Nampo, Kim declared that the era of the navy solely serving as a coastal defense force has concluded. He stated that the Choe Hyon represents a strategic shift, evolving into a full-fledged force equipped with strategic instruments, as the navy’s nuclear armament program progresses according to plan.
