North Korea Vows to Accelerate Nuclear and Military Buildup Amid Regional Tensions

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has committed to intensifying the nation’s nuclear and military development during a ruling Workers’ Party meeting. Kim emphasized that Pyongyang’s stance on bolstering its self-reliant, strong, and reliable defense deterrent remains firm in response to the increasing efforts by South Korea and the United States to modernize their military capacities in the region.
The North Korean leader reiterated that Pyongyang’s position is “fixed and unwavering,” encompassing an acceleration of efforts to expand and reinforce a self-reliant, robust, and fully dependable deterrent force. The Korean Central News Agency reported that the ruling party unanimously agreed that the country’s nuclear forces and its status as a nuclear state represent the most effective and sole strategy for confronting geopolitical challenges.
Since the collapse of the 2019 Hanoi summit between Kim and then-U.S. President Donald Trump, which faltered over disagreements on the scope of denuclearization and sanctions relief, Pyongyang has asserted its irreversible status as a nuclear state and declared its refusal to relinquish its arsenal. During the general session of the ruling party, it was unanimously approved that the full implementation of its nuclear-armed state status is the most precise and distinct path to effectively and confidently counter the unpredictable and increasingly complex international military-political situation.
The report specified that, leveraging nuclear technology, more comprehensive, innovative, and encouraging programs will be implemented at an accelerated pace. Kim has outlined tasks for the dynamic execution of this agenda, aiming to continuously enhance powerful defense capabilities through North Korea’s indigenous methods with the objective of surpassing global standards. The session also committed to expediting the construction of a 10-ton strategic guided-missile destroyer, a project the party decided upon in April.
