IAEA Chief Confirms Inspectors to Visit Iran’s Nuclear Sites

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, International Atomic Energy Agency Director General Rafael Grossi announced on Wednesday that agency inspectors will visit Iran’s nuclear enrichment facilities. Speaking at a press conference at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, which was damaged by a tsunami, Grossi told reporters that a memorandum of understanding signed by the presidents of Iran and the United States explicitly states that nuclear activities related to nuclear material facilities will be under the supervision of the IAEA.

Grossi asserted that inspections are necessary to fulfill this oversight. He added, “Whether this happens the day after tomorrow, or in a week or 10 days, it is important, but it is not fundamental. It will happen.”

This statement follows previous remarks by Ismail Baqaei, spokesperson for Iran’s diplomatic apparatus, who denied claims by U.S. officials regarding the start of nuclear negotiations. Baqaei stated, “We have neither met with the Director General of the Agency, nor is there a plan for the Agency’s inspectors to visit nuclear facilities. There is no specific protocol regarding this matter. As a party to the Non-Proliferation Treaty, we will continue the current process, and this process is very clear.”
