US House of Representatives Votes on Ending Military Support for Lebanon Conflict

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the U.S. House of Representatives will conduct a decisive vote today on a draft resolution intended to terminate U.S. military backing for the Israeli regime’s war operations in Lebanon. This legislative action, undertaken under the War Powers Act, comes amidst growing apprehension regarding the persistent Israeli attacks against Lebanon, which threaten to undermine ongoing diplomatic initiatives between Washington and Tehran aimed at achieving a comprehensive regional ceasefire.
Representative Rashida Tlaib, a Democrat, is spearheading this proposal, urging U.S. President Donald Trump to cease all American military involvement in actions related to assaults on Lebanese territory. The draft resolution highlights the immense human cost of the conflict, noting that the Israeli regime’s military operations have resulted in the deaths of over 4,000 individuals and displaced approximately 1.2 million others from their homes.
This marks the second such initiative within the House of Representatives, as a previous attempt did not secure the necessary majority. In the prior round, the measure garnered significant backing from 91 Democratic representatives and Republican Representative Thomas Massie, paving the way for its reintroduction with increased political momentum.
Political assessments in Washington indicate that the new proposal could garner substantial support, potentially from 160 to 210 Democratic representatives. This optimism is further bolstered by the endorsement of prominent Democratic leaders, including Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and his deputy, Katherine Clark.
