Iraq Opposes War on Iran, Pledges Diplomacy Amid Regional Tensions

Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein reaffirmed Baghdad’s stance against conflict in the region during a joint press conference with the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, emphasizing Iraq’s opposition to war against Iran and its commitment to international resolutions.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein stated on Tuesday during a press conference with the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) that Iraq opposes any war targeting Iran. Hussein highlighted that the GCC Secretary-General’s visit to Baghdad comes amid challenging regional circumstances.

The top Iraqi diplomat underscored Iraq’s full adherence to international resolutions. He also confirmed Iraq’s readiness for dialogue with Kuwait to reach decisions benefiting both nations.

Reiterating Iraq’s consistent position against the initiation and expansion of wars, Fuad Hussein declared Baghdad’s opposition to attacks on GCC member states as well as to any conflict against Iran. He noted that Iraq, having been a primary victim of regional wars, is now implementing a new policy centered on the principle of exclusive state control over weaponry.

Jassim Mohammed Al-Budaiwi, Secretary-General of the GCC, conveyed that his visit to Baghdad carried multiple messages. In a joint press conference with Fuad Hussein, Al-Budaiwi expressed support for numerous initiatives by the Iraqi Prime Minister. He indicated that discussions with the Iraqi Foreign Minister covered regional developments and de-escalation efforts.

The GCC Secretary-General commended the Iraqi government’s steps in preventing attacks originating from Iraqi territory toward GCC member states. Al-Budaiwi affirmed the continued support of GCC member countries for Iraq’s prosperity, emphasizing that Iraq’s security is vital for the GCC and the wider region.
