US Lawmakers Criticize Trump’s War Escalation Against Iran

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, recent data published by Mehr News Agency, citing American sources, reveals that several Democratic and Republican representatives have separately slammed President Donald Trump‘s policies regarding a potential war with Iran.
Democratic Senator John Assaf criticized Trump’s belligerent approach, stating, “He is pointlessly depleting our weapons reserves and oil.” He added, “American sailors on the USS Abraham Lincoln must fight in a war that Trump has initiated, while the US President, instead of fulfilling his responsibilities, spends his time sleeping in meetings, playing golf, and trading stocks.”
Meanwhile, Republican Representative Dan Bacon acknowledged during a televised interview on CBS News that Trump had underestimated the ease and brevity of initiating military aggression against Iran. “This assessment turned out to be incorrect,” Bacon stated. He emphasized that the US President should be transparent with the public and admit that this war is a difficult and costly engagement.
Bacon also highlighted Trump’s repeated statements about a deal with Iran, asserting that these pronouncements are perceived as a sign of weakness from Tehran’s perspective.
Previously, Democratic Senator Chris Murphy had criticized Washington’s illegal aggression against Iran, describing the war as “unwinnable” from the outset and arguing that its continuation would weaken America and strengthen Iran.
Democratic Senator Ruben Gallego, in a video interview with ABC News, called for a congressional oversight delegation to be sent to the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier to assess the psychological well-being of its sailors. This request followed media reports of suicide attempts on the vessel and confirmation from the acting Secretary of the Navy regarding “a small number of psychological cases” among the crew.
Gallego further asserted, “The root cause, a very deep one, is that this administration had no plan for war with Iran, nor a plan for how to exit it, and did not truly understand how much this conflict could escalate.” He added, “The Trump administration was trying and hoping this war would end just like the Venezuela crisis, but now our forces are paying the price for this miscalculation.”
These mounting internal US criticisms come as Trump continues to reiterate claims of “victory” in this aggression and control of the Strait of Hormuz, despite battlefield and political developments indicating otherwise. These realities demonstrate Iran’s full control over the strategic waterway of the Strait of Hormuz.
