Iraqi Shiite Leader Al-Maliki Discusses Government Arms Monopoly Plan with U.S. Envoy

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Nuri al-Maliki, the head of Iraq’s State of Law Coalition, emphasized the authority of official legal institutions in managing security and military affairs during a meeting with Joshua Harris, the acting U.S. Chargé d’Affaires in Baghdad. He announced the upcoming operational commencement of a special committee by the Coordination Framework in cooperation with the government to implement a program for the state’s monopoly on arms.
The media office of the head of the State of Law Coalition issued a statement detailing that the two sides discussed the future of bilateral relations and avenues for expanding cooperation in line with the Strategic Framework Agreement, while preserving Iraq’s sovereignty and independence.
Al-Maliki stressed during the meeting that the Coordination Framework has established a committee that will soon begin its work in coordination with the government to identify suitable mechanisms for implementing this process. He also underscored the importance of resolving this issue through dialogue and understanding to ensure national unity and safeguard Iraq’s security and stability.
Al-Maliki further stated that the government and its legal institutions are the primary authorities in managing security and military files. In response, the acting U.S. Chargé d’Affaires praised Nuri al-Maliki’s political role in supporting stability and political agreements, expressing appreciation for his stances in backing government programs aimed at strengthening the country’s legal institutions.
