US Missile Shortages in Europe Reach Critical Levels Amid Iran Conflict
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the U.S. military is experiencing a shortage of advanced interceptor missiles in Europe that is “beyond critical levels,” primarily attributed to the ongoing conflict initiated by U.S. President Donald Trump against Iran. Data published by Mehr News Agency indicates that a U.S. defense official stationed in Europe and a NATO official confirmed these severe shortages to the Associated Press.
The U.S. defense official highlighted the most concerning deficit in Patriot interceptor missiles, which are crucial for neutralizing high-speed Russian ballistic missiles. A NATO official corroborated the low levels of Patriot missiles among both American and NATO forces operating in Europe.
The U.S. defense official further warned that in the event of a Russian ballistic missile attack on a military installation or power plant, NATO could find itself in a vulnerable position similar to that of Ukraine.
This American official stated that the U.S. military in Europe “definitely” does not possess sufficient Patriot missiles to effectively counter any sustained ballistic missile attack. Furthermore, the U.S. has only a “very limited capability” to defend against a single ballistic missile strike or a stray Russian missile that deviates from its intended course.
The Associated Press reported that this situation demonstrates the cascading consequences of President Trump’s decision to commence hostilities against Iran, a conflict now entering its sixth month. U.S. missile stockpiles in Europe have been redirected to the Middle East, where the United States and its allies in the Persian Gulf nations have expended a significant number of interceptor missiles, including Patriots, to counter Iranian drones and missiles. Some of these engagements have resulted in casualties among American forces.
