Al Jazeera Analysis: US Sanctions Fail to Compel Iranian Submission
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Al Jazeera network’s website published a report examining why American sanctions have proven incapable of forcing Iran into submission. The report points to a history of U.S. military engagements where stated objectives remained unfulfilled, citing examples such as the chaotic scenes at Kabul airport, the U.S. embassy evacuation from Hanoi, the significant casualties in the Vietnam War, and the eventual withdrawal from Afghanistan, which was characterized as a hasty retreat.
The current confrontation with Iran, orchestrated by the United States and the Zionist regime, aimed to dismantle its nuclear and missile programs and topple the ruling system. However, these goals have not been realized. Every American action against Iran has been met with a response, indicating that the Iranian people have not surrendered and their resolve remains undiminished.
The sanctions currently imposed on Iran bear resemblance to those enacted over forty years ago. Following Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait, the U.S. imposed sanctions and a blockade, restricting the flow of food and medicine to Iraq. However, the situation with Iran is markedly different.
Iran’s landmass is considerably larger than Iraq’s. Neighboring countries to Iran do not share animosity towards the ruling system in Tehran. Iran shares extensive borders with Pakistan, Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, and Iraq, through which its needs can be met. Furthermore, Iran possesses approximately 700 kilometers of northern maritime border, facilitating connections with northern countries, particularly Russia. Consequently, even escalating sanctions are unlikely to compel the Iranian people to surrender.
Interestingly, the current discourse appears to focus more on the potential reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, which was not the initial cause of conflict, rather than on the specific objectives pursued by the United States and the Zionist regime in their aggression against Iran.
