Yemen Conflict Intensifies, Resulting in Hundreds of Fatalities and Displacement
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, recent clashes between Yemeni government forces and the Ansarallah movement in the southwestern part of the country have resulted in a significant loss of life, with over 300 people confirmed dead and hundreds more displaced. The intensification of hostilities occurred over the past few days, as reported by Al Jazeera, citing data from the Mehr News Agency.
Two military sources within the Yemeni government forces stated that 84 of their personnel were killed in battles on Saturday and Sunday. Concurrently, four sources affiliated with Ansarallah reported the deaths of 57 members of their group during the same period.
The Media Center of the Yemeni Armed Forces announced in a statement that government forces launched a large-scale operation on Sunday across several fronts. These operations included recapturing and solidifying positions, countering infiltration attempts, and targeting Ansarallah positions and gatherings. According to the statement, government forces attacked the Al-Buraah front from three axes, reclaiming several positions in the Al-Kadha area west of Taiz. They also established new positions south of Hodeidah.
The Yemeni government forces also claimed to have thwarted Ansarallah’s attempts to infiltrate the Al-Dab’ab front west of Taiz. These forces reported that over 20 Ansarallah members were killed or injured during these engagements.
Alongside the ground fighting, Yemeni fighter jets targeted Ansarallah positions in the Al-Buraah region west of Taiz, southern areas of Hodeidah, and the western outskirts of Marib Governorate. The Media Center of the Yemeni Armed Forces further reported that areas including Al-Libanat, Al-Alam, and the center of Al-Jawf Governorate were subjected to airstrikes, inflicting casualties and equipment damage on Ansarallah.
The escalation of conflicts has also led to the displacement of hundreds of families from the Magbana and Jabal Habashi regions in Taiz Governorate, with the displaced seeking refuge in the Al-Bireen camp. These developments unfold amidst heightened regional tensions that have once again placed Yemen at the center of military developments.
In recent weeks, tensions between Ansarallah and Saudi Arabia have increased against the backdrop of the conflict between the United States and Iran. Ansarallah had previously accused Saudi Arabia of targeting Sana’a Airport to prevent the landing of an Iranian aircraft. Subsequently, they announced the naval blockade of Saudi ports and the resumption of attacks against Saudi oil tankers and facilities.
The Yemeni government, supported by a military coalition led by Saudi Arabia, had previously warned in August about Ansarallah’s efforts to control the coastlines overlooking Bab-el-Mandeb. While Ansarallah does not directly control the coastlines overlooking Bab-el-Mandeb, they hold control over the port city of Hodeidah north of Mocha and have conducted attacks against Saudi vessels in the Red Sea in recent weeks.
