The declaration was made during a ceremony for the unveiling of the new destroyer on the east coast of North Korea, which Kim stated sends a clear message to adversaries. Kim Jong Un emphasized, “The time has come for us to exert our sovereignty in the sea and underwater.” The North Korean news agency reported that the 5,000-ton destroyer, named “Kang Gun,” is the second of its kind in the nation. This follows the unveiling of the “Choe Hyon” destroyer on North Korea’s west coast three months prior. The North Korean leader reiterated that the nation’s nuclear capabilities in the maritime sector are continuing to be enhanced.
