Syrian Activists Raise Alarm Over Human Rights Abuses Under New Regime

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, a fact-finding committee on Syria has reported to the Human Rights Council in Geneva that the number of trials held against armed elements and human rights violators in incidents related to the coastal region and western Syria, which began in early 2025, as well as the Suweida incidents in July 2025, has been very limited.

According to the report, hundreds of individuals have remained missing since the outbreak of armed confrontations with the Syrian Democratic Forces in January. The report emphasizes that among the worrying issues are deaths recorded in detention centers, arrests of activists, the spread of violent ideologies, threats against women, particularly female Syrian activists, and the resumption of conflicts in Suweida.

The committee added that all perpetrators of human rights violations in Syria must be equally brought to justice. This comes despite the new regime, which assumed power in Syria after the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s government, claiming to usher in a new era with slogans of justice and an end to violent actions. However, this period has been marked by widespread instability and insecurity under the current regime and the actions of its subordinate elements.
