Turkey Warns of Ukraine War Spillover into Black Sea, Facilitates Security Talks

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has expressed significant concern regarding the spillover of the Russia-Ukraine war into the Black Sea region. He stated that Ankara is actively facilitating discussions to bolster security in this vital maritime area.

Fidan highlighted on Tuesday that the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine has already impacted the Black Sea’s dynamics. He reaffirmed Turkey‘s successful implementation of the Montreux Convention, which governs the passage of naval vessels through the Turkish Straits—the Bosphorus and the Dardanelles.

The Turkish Foreign Minister further announced that Ankara will issue warnings to its citizens concerning the Black Sea’s evolving situation, particularly in light of intensified attacks on ports and vessels along the country’s northern coast. Fidan emphasized that Turkey is concurrently working to ease dialogues that are crucial for strengthening security within the Black Sea.
