Strait of Hormuz Closure Threatens Qatar Energy Project Delays

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Qatar Energy is facing potential delays in its development projects due to the ongoing tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz. Saad Al-Kaabi, the Chief Executive of Qatar Energy, stated that the inability to transport essential equipment to the country could force the postponement of some projects.

Speaking at an economic conference in New York, Al-Kaabi indicated that Qatar Energy is currently producing only a limited volume of liquefied natural gas. This situation has contributed to Qatar experiencing its largest quarterly budget deficit in almost ten years. The deficit arose as revenues from natural gas production were significantly impacted by U.S. actions against Iran and the potential closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

The Ministry of Finance of Qatar had previously reported a budget deficit of 21.2 billion Qatari Riyals, equivalent to $5.8 billion, during the second quarter of the year. This marks the highest deficit recorded since late 2016, doubling the 10.3 billion Qatari Riyal deficit from the preceding period.
