Russia’s Rosatom Eyes Broader Nuclear Cooperation with Iran Beyond Bushehr

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Rosatom’s Director General, Alexey Likhachev, announced that 80 of his company’s personnel are currently in Iran and actively involved in the construction of the second and third units of the Bushehr nuclear power plant.

Speaking after a meeting with Armenian officials, Likhachev stated, “Eighty individuals are currently directly engaged in the construction of Bushehr’s second and third units, and we will continue to increase this number.” He further revealed that Rosatom is examining several new locations for the construction of both large and small nuclear power plants in Iran, underscoring that the collaborative efforts between Tehran and Moscow are not confined to the Bushehr plant.

Previously, on September 22, Likhachev had reported a stable and calm situation at the Bushehr power plant site. He indicated that a significant increase in the number of Russian employees in Iran was contingent upon the finalization of peace agreements between Iran and the United States.

Likhachev also noted that the current construction focus at Bushehr centers on the development of reactor sections and turbine halls for the second and third units. The first unit of the Bushehr power plant remains operational at full capacity.
