Iraqi Lawmaker Demands Compensation from US for War Damage

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, an Iraqi parliamentary representative has asserted that the nation is entitled to substantial compensation from the United States for extensive damages incurred during past military operations. The lawmaker highlighted casualties and infrastructural destruction as grounds for this demand.
Sumiya Al-Halfi, a member of the Iraqi Parliament, stated that Iraq has suffered significant losses over the years due to military operations, resulting in numerous casualties and the destruction of the country’s infrastructure. She emphasized that it is Iraq’s right to explore all legal avenues to protect its national interests and the rights of its citizens.
Al-Halfi explained that seeking compensation from the United States is not merely a political decision but is grounded in international agreements, the nature of each incident, the responsible parties, and bilateral accords concerning the presence of foreign forces in Iraq. She cited Law No. 20 of 2009 as a legal basis for compensating individuals affected by wartime operations and military errors.
The legislator added that requesting compensation from any country necessitates thorough assessments to determine the extent of the damage. This evaluation will enable the Iraqi government to pursue its claims through political and legal channels.
