The European Union has disbursed $1.38 billion to Ukraine, primarily for bolstering its defense industry and acquiring crucial military equipment. The funds are part of a larger 90-billion-euro support package aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s capacity to defend itself.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the European Commission has announced the disbursement of 1.24 billion euros to Ukraine from the defense component of a 90-billion-euro support loan. This financial aid is designated for the procurement of drones, interceptor drones, drone ammunition, and missiles manufactured by Ukrainian military companies.

Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, asserted that Russia continues to pursue a deliberate strategy to instill terror and disrupt the daily lives of the Ukrainian people. She stated that this payment will contribute to strengthening Ukraine’s defense industries and its ability to protect its citizens and infrastructure.

The support loan for Ukraine, covering the years 2026 and 2027, totals 90 billion euros. Of this amount, 60 billion euros are allocated for defense needs, and 30 billion euros are earmarked for budgetary support. The European Union plans to disburse approximately 28.3 billion euros in 2026 to enhance the capacity of Ukraine’s defense industry, with further payments anticipated in the coming weeks.

The European Union has reported that since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine, the EU and its member states have provided a total of 228.7 billion euros in financial assistance to the country. Of this sum, 3.8 billion euros were financed from the revenue generated by frozen Russian assets. An additional 32.5 billion euros will be available for financial support to Ukraine by the end of 2026.
