Brussels Protests Turn Violent Amidst Nationwide General Strike

Belgian media outlet VRT reported that security forces intervened in the protests, employing tear gas. Official figures on arrests or injuries have not yet been released.
Labor unions are expressing their discontent over potential reductions in public spending, rising living costs, and the economic strain on households. The main demonstration organized by the Socialist Workers’ Union was scheduled to proceed from near Brussels Central Station towards Brussels-Midi Station.
The protests have also caused significant disruptions to public transportation, with Brussels Airport announcing the cancellation of approximately 140 flights.
