Oil Tanker Catches Fire After Missile Strike in Strait of Hormuz

A missile strike has caused a fire on an oil tanker transiting the Strait of Hormuz, according to initial reports from maritime authorities. The incident occurred as the vessel was exiting the strategic waterway.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) has reported receiving details of an incident in the Strait of Hormuz involving an oil tanker struck by an unidentified projectile, leading to a fire. The UKMTO’s statement was based on information relayed by RT.

Crew members aboard the oil tanker confirmed that the left side of their vessel was hit by an unknown projectile while it was navigating out of the Strait of Hormuz. The impact subsequently ignited a fire.

Previously, the UKMTO had issued advisories for several ships in proximity to Ras Al Khaimah in the United Arab Emirates to alter their berthing locations.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has repeatedly emphasized that vessels intending to transit the Strait of Hormuz must adhere to declared directives and designated shipping routes.
