Trump-Zelensky Relations at Lowest Point, Citing Disagreements Over Russian Oil Attacks

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, The Wall Street Journal has reported that the relationship between U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is at its lowest ebb since their verbal altercation at the White House in February of last year. European efforts to persuade Trump to continue aid to Kyiv may be weakened by these strained ties.
Over the past month, Trump has repeatedly urged Kyiv to cease its attacks on Russian oil refineries, expressing dissatisfaction with Zelensky’s reluctance to make concessions. A primary concern for Ukraine is that Washington might halt intelligence sharing with Kyiv amidst escalating disagreements.
The deterioration of Washington-Kyiv relations could impede the nearly 18-month effort by European nations to maintain U.S. support for Ukraine and increase pressure on Moscow. Reports suggest that an agreement between Trump and Putin regarding the supply of Russian diesel fuel, coupled with Trump’s subsequent remarks on the necessity of electing new leadership in Ukraine, has exacerbated the differences between the two sides.
