Kazakhstan: “Astana talks” about Syria will be revived

According to the report of Fars News Agency International Group, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan announced this Friday that the new round of the Astana meeting on Syria will be held in the capital of this country on January 24 and 24 (Bahman 4 and 5).
“Aibek Samdiarov” added: The 21st meeting of the Astana framework on Syria will be held next week as part of this process.
The previous round of the Astana meeting was held in Kazakhstan on June 20 and 21 last year with the presence of Iran, Turkey and Russia as guarantor countries, as well as representatives of the Syrian government and Syrian opposition groups. Representatives from the United Nations, Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq were also present as observer members.
Kazakh Deputy Foreign Minister Qamit Tomish announced at that time that this was the last meeting of the Astana framework. However, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan announced that the Kazakh authorities are ready to renew the continuation of negotiations if the parties involved collectively request it.
The spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan also added: the negotiation process was resumed based on the collective request presented by the guarantor countries.

The first round of Astana negotiations to resolve the Syrian crisis was held in January 2017.
