Russia Accuses West of Seeking Control Over Strategic Maritime Routes

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Russia has alleged that Western countries are seeking to assert control over crucial logistical routes across the oceans. Vladislav Maslennikov, director of the European Affairs Department at Russia’s Foreign Ministry, stated in an interview with RIA Novosti that Western nations have increasingly put forth anti-Russian initiatives concerning maritime transport in recent months.
The Russian official further elaborated that European countries, referencing what they term as a threat from Russia, are attempting to justify restrictions imposed on the country’s economic capacity. Concurrently, these nations are striving to secure control over key maritime transport routes within the context of global economic competition.
Maslennikov also highlighted what he described as an escalation of Western initiatives against Russia in the realm of shipping, characterizing these actions as destructive from Moscow’s perspective.
In recent months, Russia has repeatedly voiced criticism regarding the actions of Western countries in the field of maritime transport and the restrictions imposed on its fleet and trade. Russian officials have also taken positions on initiatives by European countries and Canada concerning maritime security in the Baltic, North Atlantic, and Arctic regions.
Moscow views these actions as part of a broader Western effort to curtail Russia’s economic capacity and maritime influence. Conversely, Western countries justify some of these initiatives based on security and defense considerations.
