Israeli Opposition Leader Eisenkot Rejects Serving Under Netanyahu Despite Potential Trump Intervention

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Gadi Eisenkot, a key political adversary of Benjamin Netanyahu and head of the Yesh Atid party, emphasized in a recent stance that his refusal to submit to the Israeli primeminister’s command remains absolute, even at the request of US President Donald Trump, clarifying that this position stems purely from domestic political dynamics within Israel.
Previously, former Israeli prime minister Naftali Bennett announced that his parliamentary faction would formally request Israeli President Isaac Herzog to task Eisenkot with forming the upcoming cabinet. Aligning with this move, Channel 12 of the Israeli television reported that the Democrats party, led by Yair Golan, intends to present a similar demand to Herzog. Earlier, opposition figures held a joint meeting to underscore their determination to oust Netanyahu.
Conversely, Channel 14 of the Israeli television, citing informed sources, reported that Benjamin Netanyahu has decided to suspend current efforts toward government formation and pursue the path of holding fresh elections. According to this report, the decision entails abandoning the formation of a so-called national unity cabinet as well as dropping the option of forming a coalition with Avigdor Lieberman and Naftali Bennett.
