Gadi Eisenkot Appointed to Form Israeli Cabinet

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, …
Israeli President Isaac Herzog announced that Gadi Eisenkot has formally accepted the responsibility of establishing a new cabinet. Under the mandate, Eisenkot is allocated an initial period of 28 days to finalize his government, with a potential 14-day extension available if necessary.
The appointment follows extensive parliamentary consultations on Thursday, during which Eisenkot successfully secured the backing of a majority of Knesset members to assume the role of prime minister. President Herzog confirmed that representatives from parliamentary factions controlling a combined 67 seats voiced their support for Eisenkot, whereas opposing factions holding 46 seats had advocated for Benjamin Netanyahu to retain the position.
Describing the outcome of the consultations as definitive, Herzog noted that a final series of talks with party leaders would precede the formal handover of the mandate. Meanwhile, the Yeshar party launched sharp criticisms against Netanyahu’s recent proposals for a unity government, accusing him of hypocrisy and asserting that his past governance has fostered deep internal divisions within Israeli society.
The recent parliamentary elections concluded without either major political bloc securing an outright majority in the 127-seat legislature. Netanyahu’s Likud party secured 27 seats, while his allied National-Religious coalition brought his total bloc support to 53 seats. Conversely, the opposition bloc led by Eisenkot captured 48 seats, alongside an unprecedented 19 seats won collectively by Arab parties.
