Bismillah Rahman Rahman
Mr. President,
First of all, let me start the speech by greeting the holy month of Ramadan to all the audience and the Muslims of the world. In addition, I would like to express my gratitude to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania as well as the President of the General Assembly for inviting us to celebrate the second anniversary of the International Day Against Islamophobia. I would also like to announce the support of the Islamic Republic of Iran with the statement of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela on behalf of the group of friends in defense of the Charter. United in the adoption of Resolution 76/254 in 2022, it definitely expressed a common will that was rooted in a deep understanding of the threats posed by Islamophobia against international peace and security. Today’s approval of the resolution “Measures to combat Islamophobia” is another clear evidence of this common commitment to end Islamophobia in all its forms and manifestations.

The time has come to make the best use of our solidarity. and to mobilize the comprehensive participation of all stakeholders to actively fight against such a threat in various ways, including the promotion of global dialogue with the aim of increasing tolerance and coexistence among nations. Anti-Islamic campaigns, including through the media and social media platforms, the Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemns any hateful, discriminatory speech, terrorist attacks and violence against Muslims, beliefs, principles and sacred things of Muslims. We believe that such actions and policies, wherever they are, will have devastating effects on all Muslims everywhere in the world, especially Muslims who live in vulnerable situations such as under foreign occupation or in the minority.

In this regard, the world continues to witness daily aggression against Palestinians whose land is occupied, and Israel, as an occupying regime with the cooperation of its allies, makes a desperate attempt to justify all its crimes and apartheid actions by establishing a direct link between Islam and terrorism. to give We repeat that not only Islam forbids the killing of innocent civilians, but terrorism and violent extremism leading to terrorism cannot and should not be associated with any religion, nationality, civilization or ethnic group.

Also, Muslims have faced clear violations of their human rights in a number of European countries under the pretext of freedom of speech, as well as violence, defamation and desecration of their values, holy books and scriptures. Unfortunately, such attacks are intensifying and worsening following the emergence of far-right parties in those countries. A number of these countries not only refuse to criminalize or prohibit violence and hatred against religious symbols and holy books in their national regulations, but also try to distance themselves from collective efforts to realize this goal.

In conclusion, Mr. President, the Islamic Republic of Iran, as one of the supporters of Resolution 254/76 and the resolution approved today, is determined to continue supporting efforts to fight Islamophobia and religious extremism. We also want to express our readiness to cooperate closely with the international community in this field.

The Islamic Republic of Iran emphasizes its full solidarity with the victims of Islamophobic attacks around the world. Iran also highlights the importance of commemorating the International Day Against Islamophobia in reminding the global commitments to promote a culture of tolerance and peace at all levels, which is based on respect for human rights as well as the diversity of religions and beliefs.
