The Zionist invasion of Gaza and the disastrous effects on the soil, weather and climate

An international institute announced that the water, soil and air of this strip have been severely polluted due to the attacks of the Zionist regime on Gaza.

Five months after the beginning of the aggressive attacks of the Zionist regime on the Gaza Strip, the occupiers have not only killed civilians and destroyed houses, but also caused disasters and environmental effects in this area, which can be described as permanent. Experts believe that this invasion has had disastrous effects on the soil, underground water and even the air.

According to Al-Arabi al-Jadeed, the Gaza Strip is located in the Mediterranean region, which the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has declared to be one of the regions in the world most affected by climate change, drought conditions and He sees an intense heat wave.

While the global temperature has increased by 1.1 degrees Celsius since the pre-industrial era, the temperature in Palestine has increased by 1.5 degrees Celsius.

In a study to assess the environmental situation in the Gaza Strip just two months after the invasion and published in the journal Social Science Research Network, researchers said 281,000 tons of carbon dioxide were produced in the first two months of the war, more than 99 percent It was due to the aerial bombardment of the Zionist regime and the ground attack on the Gaza Strip.

According to this study, the carbon cost (a carbon cost is a way of putting a cost on carbon pollution) of rebuilding the Gaza Strip is too high.

Hisham Rabi, soil and climate expert at the Egyptian Ministry of Environment, said in an interview to al-Araby al-Jadeed that the real environmental assessment of the Zionist regime’s encroachment on the Gaza Strip has not yet been done and it is difficult to do it. Because currently, especially the war machine continues and the bombing has not stopped.

Rabi announced that the environmental situation of the Gaza Strip was bad due to the blockade and actions of the Zionist regime and policies threatening water, before the invasion, due to the increase in the sea level and the drought that has affected the region. .

He went on to say that the environmental situation in the besieged Gaza strip is now more catastrophic than the situation shown in this study. Therefore, there is an urgent need for more applied studies, sampling of Gaza’s soil, water, air and plants to investigate them and reveal the real environmental problems caused by the Zionist attacks on the Strip.
