The United States Geological Survey announced that an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.8 on the Richter scale occurred on the morning of Friday, April 17, 1403, equivalent to April 5, 2024, near New York City.

The epicenter was near Whitehouse Station, New Jersey, and struck just after 10:20 a.m. ET (1420 GMT) at a depth of 4.7 kilometers (2.9 miles).

The earthquake shook buildings in New York and surprised residents in the area, which rarely experiences a significant earthquake, but no damage has been reported so far.
